Start Walking - Guidelines From Your Walking Buddy Part 2 - Excuses

Today we start at Square One.Before you take a step you must want to do this! The "first step" in walking is the desire to move.Just like that infant who figures it out, you must WANT to MOVE.Walking is probably the most natural thing a human could do.Regular walking is probably the nicest thing you could ever do for your body.So what's keeping you from moving?Let's examine possible reasons and why they are not justified..Excuse #1 "I'm too old" Oh no you're not! Even if you are ANCIENT (that's over 30 in my teenager's mind) you can walk. There is a wonderful book out called Younger Next Year that expels all myths about seniors moving.Talk with your doctor, then get walking!Excuse #2 "It's not safe to go out" Oh yes, it it is! It's not safe to hide away in your house, letting life pass you by.Go to a place where you feel safe or find a buddy or group to walk with. While I'm not into malls myself, these are one of several safe places.Just use good judgment and then do it!Excuse #3 "I don't have the right equipment" Who are you kidding? You can wear almost any shoes for walking.Of course it is better if you have a relatively new pair of good "sports-type, reputable brand" walking or running-type shoes but, don't let this stop you.Start walking today and start saving your change. As motivation and a gift for your new activity, be watching the papers for sales on walking or running shoes (running shoes work just fine for walkers and may offer your more choices when purchasing). And, when your local sporting good store has a sales on last year's model, walk in and buy yourself a gift! You've earned yourself a new pair of walking shoes! So, if you're trying to talk yourself out of something that you know is really good for you, Next article. Three Essentials for Successful Walking.
